undercover.co.id – CODA , The Academy Awards or better known as the 2022 Oscars brought CODA to be the winner of the Best Picture category or best film. In the event which took place on Sunday (27/3/2022) in the United States, the same film also brought home trophies from two other categories, namely Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor on behalf of Troy Kotsur.
CODA became the first Oscar-winning film to be distributed by streaming service Apple TV+ after debuting at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival. Apple Studios acquired the rights to the film from director Sian Heder for US$ 25 million. This figure also broke the record for purchasing distribution rights from films screened at the Sundance festival.
“It has been an incredible journey from the first time we saw CODA to finally receiving historic recognition from the Academy Awards. It’s great to be able to witness firsthand the positive impact on humanity of this story around the world,” said Jamie Erlicht, Apple TV+’s Head of Worldwide Video Programming .
The film is an adaptation of the French cinema La Familie Belier , which was produced in 2014. The title of this Oscar-winning film comes from the heart of the story about Ruby Rossi as the child of a child of deaf adults (CODA). The character is played by British actress, Emilia Jones.
Based on estimates published on the Wall Street Journal page , Apple spent up to $10 million in promotional funds for CODA , which they started broadcasting in August 2021. In fact, the cost of producing a film produced by the quartet Fabrice Gianfermi, Philippe Rousselet, Jerome Seydoux, and Patrick Wachsberger did not touch the US$ 10 million mark.
In addition to the success of Apple TV+ delivering CODA as an award winner, Oscar 2022 is also a moment of appreciation for many cinema works released by streaming services . Netflix has won the most award nominations with 27. However, it only managed to get one trophy in the Best Director category on behalf of Jane Campion, director of the film The Power of the Dog .
